Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 : Cochin International Airport - Thattekkad ( 45 km / 1 hrs 30 mins )

Arrive at Kochi airport and drive to Thattekad.

Afternoon Bird Hide: Look for the Asian Fairy-bluebird, Indian Pitta, Orange-headed Thrush, Malabar Starling, White-cheeked Barbet, Flame-throated Bulbul, White-bellied Treepie, Greater Racket-tailed Drongo, Yellow-browed Bulbul, Black-naped Monarch, Blue-throated Flycatcher, Emerald Dove, etc.

Night Birding in Kalappara Forest: Look for the Spot-bellied Eagle-owl, Jerdon's Nightjar, Jungle Nightjar, etc.

Day 2 : Thattekkad

Morning Birding in Thattekad (Urulanthanni Forest): Look for the White-bellied Treepie, Malabar Grey Hornbill, White-bellied Blue Flycatcher, and Grey-headed Bulbul. Also, look for non-endemics like nightjars, owls, and frogmouths, etc.

Afternoon Bird Hide: Good chances for the White-bellied Blue Flycatcher, Rusty-tailed Flycatcher, Brown-breasted Flycatcher, Indian Paradise Flycatcher, Little Spiderhunter, Crimson-backed Sunbird, Asian Fairy-bluebird, etc.

Night Birding in Charupara Forest: Look for the Sri Lanka Bay Owl, Indian Scops Owl, Jungle Owlet, Jerdon's Nightjar, Oriental Scops Owl, Brown Hawk-owl, etc.

Day 3 : Thattekkad

This morning, we will proceed to Cheekode for Black Baza, White-bellied Treepie, Asian fairy bluebird, Brown Hawk-Owl, Jungle Owlet, etc. Afternoon Bird Hide, Night birding around the Kalappara area for leftover Species.

Day 4 : Thattekkad - Periyar National Park ( 117 km / 3 hrs 30 mins )

After the morning breakfast, we will proceed to Thekkady ( Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary ). Afternoon walk in the bamboo forest for Wayanad laughingthrush, rufous babbler, great hornbill, White bellied treepie, Oriental scops owl, etc

Day 5 : Periyar National Park

Morning Nature walk in the National Park or a morning visit to Gavi National Park (two-hour jeep safari from the property to Gavi, Optional). Evening Green Walk in the Periyar National Park. Looking for leftover species.

Day 6 : Periyar National Park - Munnar

After the morning walk at Periyar national ( for leftover species ), we will proceed to Munnar (1500 MSL) after the Morning birding in Thattekad.Afternoon birding around Pothamedu, looks for High Altitude Endemic species like Black and Orange flycatcher, White bellied Sholakkili, Nilgiri wood pigeon, Nilgiri Flycatcher, Nilgiri Flowerpecker, Crimson-backed sunbird, Indian yellow tit, Velvet-fronted nuthatch, Yellow-browed bulbul, Malabar barbet, Malabar parakeet, Malabar flameback, etc.

Day 7 : Munnar

This morning, around Eravikulam National Park: Look for the Palani Laughingthrush, Nilgiri Pipit, Indian Blackbird, Malabar Whistling-thrush, Hill Swallow, Painted Bush-quail, Indian Blue Robin, Indian White-eye, Nilgiri Thrush, Plain Prinia, etc.

Afternoon Bird Hide (Target Species): Southern Hill Myna, Golden-fronted Leafbird, White-bellied Treepie, Vernal Hanging-parakeet, Indian Scimitar-babbler, Crimson-backed Sunbird, Purple-rumped Sunbird, etc.

Day 8 : Munnar - Valparai ( 154 Kms / 4 Hrs 45 Mnts )

We will start early in the morning, birding at Chinnar ( dry scrub forest), looking for White-bellied drongo, blue-faced malkoha, white-naped woodpecker, Yellow-throated bulbul, Green imperial pigeon, Indian robin, White-browed bulbul, etc. From here, taking the long drive, we will reach Valparai by evening.

Day 9 : Valparai

These two days, Morning and afternoon birding at Valparai, looking for Rufous Babbler, White-bellied Treepie, Great Hornbill, Leege’s hawk Eagle, Velvet-fronted nuthatch, Indian Scimitar babbler, Lion-tailed Macaque, Indian Gaur, Asiatic Elephants, etc.

Day 10 : Valparai - Ooty ( 193 km / 6 Hrs )

After breakfast, we will proceed to Ooty. This journey will take around 7 Hrs ( Lunch on the way ). Afternoon birding at Ooty ( if time permits ), looking for Nilgiri Sholakili, Nilgiri Laughingthrush, Nilgiri Wood Pigeons, Nilgiri Thrush ( High Altitude Endemics), etc.

Day 11 : Ooty

Morning and afternoon birding around Ooty and the outskirts. Looking for leftover species.

Day 12 : Ooty - Masinagudi( 30 km / 1 hrs)

Early in the morning, we’ll proceed to Masinagudi for a full day of birdwatching. We’ll be on the lookout for species like the White-bellied Minivet, Small Minivets, Brahmani Starling, Malabar Lark, Indian Nuthatch, Jungle Bush Quail, Jungle Nightjar, Savanna Nightjar, Spot-bellied Eagle, Brown Fish Owl, Blue-faced Malkoha, Yellow-footed Green Pigeon, Yellow-crowned Woodpecker, Streak-throated Woodpecker, Jerdon’s Bushlark, White-bellied Drongo, Jerdon’s Leafbird, White-browed Fantail, White-rumped Vulture, Red-headed Vulture, Crested Hawk Eagle, Bonelli’s Eagle, Thick-billed Flowerpecker, White-naped Woodpecker, Tawny-bellied Babbler, Yellow-eyed Babbler, Yellow-billed Babbler, and more.

Day 14 : Masinagudi - Wayanad (91 km / 2 Hrs 30 Mint)

After morning birding in Masinagudi, we will proceed to Wayanad.
We will be looking for the Banasura Laughingthrush, one of the hardest endemics to find in the Western Ghats. Other targets include the Nilgiri Flycatcher, Black-and-orange Flycatcher, Crimson-backed Sunbird, Nilgiri Flowerpecker, Common Flameback, Heart-spotted Woodpecker, Malabar Imperial-pigeon, Grey-fronted Green-pigeon, etc.

Day 15 : Wayanad - Kabini National Park ( 100 km / 2 Hrs 45 Mnts )

After breakfast, we will proceed to Kabini National Park. Kabini National Park is one of the best for Big Cats and Mammals.
Afternoon Jeep safari in Kabini National Park. Should be sighted Asiatic Elephants, Indian Dhole, Indian Goar, Leopard/Melanistic leopard, Bengal Tiger, Ruddy Mongoose, Southern Gray Langur, etc..

Day 16 : Kabini National Park

Morning and afternoon jeep safari in the National Park. After the safari, we will do birding at Kabini river banks.

DAY 17: Kabini - Mysore (81 km / 2 hours and 30 minutes)

After the morning safari, we’ll move to Mysore. After checking into our hotel and after having lunch, we will head to Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary (Boating), where we will look for Painted Stork, Spot-billed Pelican, Great Thick Knee, Eurasian Spoonbill, River Tern, Asian open-bill, Pied Kingfisher, Indian Grey Hornbill, White- spotted fantail, Baya weaver, and other birds.

DAY 18: Mysore – Banglore (141 km / 3.5 hours )

We will visit Bannur (Grassland, Mysore) in the morning. After morning birding, we will drive to Bangalore International Airport. Sky’s lark, Ashy crowned sparrow lark, Indian bush lark, Red Avadavat, Indian silverbill, Singing bush lark, Indian Eagle-owl, White-eyed buzzard, Richard’s pipit, Yellow wattled lapwing, and others can be found at Bannur.
