South India Birds and Wildlife Tour

Arrive at Port Blair on the morning flight. Meet your guide and proceed for birdwatching or to the hotel. We will explore the Chidiya Tapu Reserve Forest, a tropical moist evergreen forest, where we may spot various endemic species such as the Andaman Woodpecker, Andaman Wood Pigeon, Andaman Cuckoo Dove, Andaman Crake, Andaman Serpent Eagle, Andaman Coucal, Andaman Flowerpecker, Andaman Treepie, Andaman Drongo, Andaman Bulbul, Andaman Shama, Andaman White-headed Starling, Andaman Green Pigeon, Black-naped Oriole, Orange-headed Thrush, Olive-backed Sunbird, Alexandrine Parakeet, Red-breasted Parakeet, Long-tailed Parakeet, Fulvous-breasted Woodpecker, Dollarbird, Collared Kingfisher, and more. After lunch, we’ll visit Mount Harriet National Park or nearby areas in the evening for night birds such as the Andaman Scops Owl, Andaman Hawk Owl, Oriental Scops Owl (Andaman Race), Hume’s Owl, and others

In the morning, we’ll drive towards Ferrargunj Forest Reserve. On the way, we’ll search for the Andaman Teal, Andaman Drongo, Andaman Cuckooshrike, Edible Nest Swiftlet, as well as other endemic and non-endemic species. Return to the hotel for lunch, and in the afternoon, visit Sippy Ghat to observe waders and explore the night birdlife around Chidiya Tapu.

Drive to Chidiya Tapu or Mount Harriet National Park in the morning, depending on the target species. Return to the hotel for lunch, and in the evening, look for the Andaman Nightjar and Andaman Barn Owl.

Birdwatch around Shoal Bay area in the morning, with a good chance of sighting the Ruddy Kingfisher and other endemics and non-endemic species. In the afternoon, visit areas to search for any endemics missed earlier.

This morning we will bird around Mount Harriet and Sholbay for leftover species .Evening flyback to Coimbatore .

Today we’ll engage in birding at Kallingal grassland, where we may encounter species such as the Chestnut-bellied Sandgrouse, Indian Courser, Great Thick-knee, Sykes’s Lark, Ashy-crowned Sparrow Lark, Singing Bushlark, Indian Eagle Owl, Large Gray Babbler, Yellow-wattled Lapwing, Indian Nightjar, Spotted Owlet, and more.

This morning we will bird around Puliyampatti grassland forPainted Sangrove, Sikeer Malkhoha, Red necked Falcon, White eyed buzzard, Jungle Prinia, Barred buttonquail, European Bee-eater, European Roller, ect.. 

After the morning birding we will proceed to  Ooty.It will take 2 Hrs 45 minutes ( 79 km ). Evening birding in Ooty. Looking for High Altitude Endemics  like Nilgiri Laughing thrush, Nilgiri Sholakili, Painted Bush Quail, Nilgiri Pipit,Black and Orange Flycatcher, Nilgiri Flycatcher etc.

In the morning, we’ll go birdwatching in Doddabetta Hills, searching for species like the Nilgiri Thrush, Nilgiri Wood Pigeon, Tytler’s Leaf Warbler, Greenish Warbler, White-spotted Fantail, Gray Junglefowl, Indian Blackbird, Malabar Whistling Thrush,

Kashmir Flycatcher, and more. In the afternoon, we’ll explore Coonoor, looking for the Gray-headed Bulbul, White-bellied Blue Flycatcher, Brown-cheeked Fulvetta, White-cheeked Barbet, Square-tailed Bulbul, Malabar Parakeet, Brown Wood Owl, and others.

Early in the morning, we’ll proceed to Masinagudi for a full day of birdwatching. We’ll be on the lookout for species like the White-bellied Minivet, Small Minivets, Brahmani Starling, Malabar Lark, Indian Nuthatch, Jungle Bush Quail, Jungle Nightjar, Savanna Nightjar, Spot-bellied Eagle, Brown Fish Owl, Blue-faced Malkoha, Yellow-footed Green Pigeon, Yellow-crowned Woodpecker, Streak-throated Woodpecker, Jerdon’s Bushlark, White-bellied Drongo, Jerdon’s Leafbird, White-browed Fantail, White-rumped Vulture, Red-headed Vulture, Crested Hawk Eagle, Bonelli’s Eagle, Thick-billed Flowerpecker, White-naped Woodpecker, Tawny-bellied Babbler, Yellow-eyed Babbler, Yellow-billed Babbler, and more.

After the morning birding we will proceed to Munnar ( Long Drive ). By the evening  we will reach Munnar. If time permits,  we will do some birding in Munnar.

Early in the morning at 6:30 am, we’ll head to Rajamala National Park in Munnar (Eravikulam) and nearby sholas, which are high-altitude cloud forests. Here, we’ll have the opportunity to spot endemic species such as the Nilgiri Wood Pigeon, Nilgiri Flycatcher, White-bellied Solaikili, Nilgiri Pipit, Palani Laughingthrush, Nilgiri Thrush, Broad-tailed Grassbird (difficult to find), Black and Orange Flycatcher, as well as non-endemics like Painted Bush Quail, Indian Blackbird, Indian Blue Robin, Hill Swallow, Square-tailed Bulbul, Plain Prinia, Tytler’s Leaf Warbler, Tickell’s Leaf Warbler, Large-billed Leaf Warbler, Pied Bushchat, and more. In the afternoon, we’ll continue birding around Pothamedu Hills for any remaining species.

This morning, we’ll travel to the Body Ghats en route to Periyar. We’ll make stops along the way to search for rare species such as the Yellow-throated Bulbul, Hill Prinia, Sirkeer Malkoha, Black Eagle, and other birds. In the afternoon, we’ll have birdwatching activities at Periyar Tiger Reserve National Park, one of the premier wildlife and birding destinations in the world. During our time at Periyar, we’ll have the opportunity to spot rare species like the Wayanad Laughingthrush, Rufous Babbler, Legge’s Hawk Eagle, Malabar Barbet, White-bellied Treepie, and more.

We’ll start the day with a morning walk in Periyar National Park, where we’ll search for the Malabar Parakeet, White-bellied Blue Flycatcher, Malabar Barbet, Malabar Gray Hornbill, Malabar Woodshrike, Malabar Flameback Woodpecker, Common Flameback Woodpecker, Great Hornbill, Black-throated Munia, and other fascinating bird species. After the morning walk, we’ll proceed to Thattekad Bird Sanctuary. In the evening and night, we’ll indulge in birding activities in Thattekad and its outskirts, with a focus on finding species like the Red Spurfowl, Gray-headed Bulbul, Malabar Gray Hornbill, Malabar Starling, Southern Hill Myna, Heart-spotted Woodpecker, Flame-throated Bulbul, Dollarbird, Dark-fronted Babbler, Orange Minivet, Great Eared Nightjar, Jerdon’s Nightjar, Indian Scops Owl, Oriental Scops Owl, Brown Hawk Owl, Jungle Owlet, Sri Lankan Bay Owl, and more.

Thattekad is a lowland forest that boasts a wide variety of forest types and is home to most of the endemic birds of the Western Ghats. Today, we’ll proceed to Urulanthanni Forest in the morning, where we’ll have the chance to spot Indian Swiftlet, White-rumped Spinetail, Nilgiri Flowerpecker, Asian Fairy Bluebird, Crimson-backed Sunbird, Loten’s Sunbird, Little Spiderhunter, Rufous-bellied Eagle, Black-throated Munia, Crested Goshawk, Oriental Honey Buzzard, Malabar Imperial Pigeon, Blue-throated Blue Flycatcher, Blue-eared Kingfisher, Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher, Fork-tailed Drongo Cuckoo, White-bellied Woodpecker, Gray-fronted Green Pigeon, Western Crowned Warbler, Green Warbler, Large-billed Leaf Warbler, Malabar Trogon, and many more. In the night, we’ll embark on a thrilling session of night birding in Charupara Forest, where we might encounter the Spot-bellied Eagle Owl and Sri Lankan Bay Owl, among others.

We’ll start the morning with birding activities in Thattekad and Cheekode Forest, aiming to spot species like the White-bellied Treepie, White-bellied Blue Flycatcher, Grey-headed Bulbul, as well as non-endemics like Black Baza, Mottled Wood Owls, Sri Lankan Frogmouth, and more. In the afternoon, we’ll settle into our bird hide, where we’ll have excellent chances of observing the White-bellied Blue Flycatcher, Rusty-tailed Flycatcher, Brown-breasted Flycatcher, Indian Paradise Flycatcher, Bronzed Drongo, Indian Pitta, Orange-headed Thrush, Blue-bearded Bee-eater, and other delightful avian species.

After the morning birding to search for any remaining species, we’ll conclude our birding adventure and proceed to Cochin International Airport, which is approximately 45 kilometers away, with a travel time of around 1 hour and 30 minutes. Our birding journey comes to an end as we bid farewell to the captivating wilderness and stunning birdlife of Kerala.
