Our guide will pick us up from the Bagdogra airport in the morning (please take a flight that arrives before 8 am). If you are reaching the previous day, they will pick you up from your hotel (Rooms can be arranged for Rs 1500 without food). After breakfast, we will broad our SUVs and start a long drive towards Lachen. We will have our lunch en-route at Mangan (around 3 pm). If time permits, we will stop for a bit of birding on the way before reaching our destination by 7.30 pm. Dinner around 8.30 pm. Night stay at Lachen (double bedroom with attached bath).
We will give priority to acclimatising to altitude and weather today. We will leave our accommodation early in the morning and slowly hike up to Lachen monastery to search for high-altitude species such as Speckled wood pigeon, Spotted Nutcracker, and Scaly-breasted cup-wing, Long-billed thrush, Red-throated-thrush and Himalayan Buzzard. After breakfast, do a bit of backyard birding for the Eurasian wren, Little forktail. Post lunch, we will scan the ridges and valleys for Yellow-rumped honeyguide, Rusty-flanked treecreeper, White-browed bush robin and Himalayan Sherow.
We will have a quick breakfast at 4.30 am and set out for higher altitude locations by 5.00 am. We will reach Thangu Checkpost by 7 am. After breakfast here, we will walk around leisurely near the checkpoint area looking for Solitary snipe, White-throated dipper and Tibetan Blackbird. After the ramble, we will move to the plateau to search for exotic birds and mammals. We will also visit the spectacular Gurudongmar lake. We will start our descent by 1 pm to reach our accommodation around 5 pm.
On this day, again, we will explore Thangu valley, another important birding and landscape location in the Tibetan Plateau. We will spend the whole day exploring the Georges and valleys, looking for birds and mammals.
We will spend the morning hours at Lachen to search for left-out species, then start our descent towards Gangtok. On the way, we will stop for Brown Dipper, Darjeeling Woodpecker, Collared tree-pie, Bay woodpecker and some commoners. We will take our lunch en-route at Rangrang. Night-stay in Gangtok.
Today is the last day of our trip Morning birding at Gangtok outskirt for Blue-winged laughing thrush, Kalij pheasant, Grey-sided laughing-thrush, Dark-breasted rose finch etc. Tour ends by 2 pm at the Bagdogra Airport.
